A spokesperson for Portland Port said: “Discussions with Dorset Council have been ongoing to find the most appropriate location where cruise ship coaches can drop off and collect passengers in Weymouth."

Buses vital for cruise ship visits

Portland Port has set out the importance of shuttle buses for its cruise ship business and the £10m it brings to south Dorset. Its complimentary service – upon which the port spends hundreds of thousands of pounds each year - takes passengers directly from the port quayside to Weymouth town centre where they are dropped off behind Hope Square.

A recent rescue in Portland Harbour showed the value of teamwork and the importance of raising the alarm as soon as possible. Late in the afternoon of Sunday February 25, a concerned member of the public called the Portland Harbour Authority Office about a 35ft yacht believed to be in distress near Castle Cove.
